About the Author

I’m Daniel Shorten; I’ll dispense with such pretentious formalities as speaking of myself in the third person.

I’ve always enjoyed an imaginative, well-told story and began some serious efforts at telling my own as early as grade five. My dedication to the art of storytelling waned through junior and senior high, likely as a result of pursuing other artistic disciplines, such as music and visual arts. I remember being vaguely disappointed that English courses throughout my secondary schooling offered almost no opportunity for writing fiction. Only in 2004, when I started work on the novelization of Final Fantasy VII, did I make an earnest return to storytelling.

I’ve thought about the disadvantages of this current undertaking—that is basing a novel on a story that has already been written. At this point I still feel strongly enough about the vision I have for the work, as well as the experience I hope to gain, to continue writing chapters.

As of September, 2007, I’ll be in my last year of studies in a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Computer Science. As much as my schedule permits, I’ll be trying to keep work up on this project.
