About the Novel

Cry of the Planet is my effort to create a quality novel form of the story of Squaresoft’s Final Fantasy VII.

Ever since I played through the first few hours of the game back in 1997 when it was released on the Sony Playstation, I was captivated by the exhilarating story line and the depth of the characters. Years later when I was able to play through the game and delve deeper into the plot, I realized how intricate the story was while still maintaining its cohesion and drive.

The game is set in a fantasy world, with monsters and magic, yet it addresses a lot of issues that are relevant now: politics, the environment, the struggle with mistakes and pain of the past. The fight against the evil inside of ourselves is a central theme of Final Fantasy VII, and it asks the question of what or who is ultimately in charge of our lives and our destinies.

I feel that this story is a masterpiece and that it should be able to communicate to as many people as possible. Unfortunately, many people who might enjoy the tale of Final Fantasy VII are not interested in actually playing the video game.

My goal is to take the story elements of the game and craft them into a novel that can be enjoyed by as many people as possible. Even though the story is deeply rooted in the fantasy genre, I’m aiming focus on the characters relationships and emotions in a way that will interest a wider base of readers.

The project started in 2004, and is progressing slowly. Still, I feel that the chapters I’ve posted are polished. I’m always looking for people to read my work and offer their opinion on what is good and what could be improved. I especially value feedback from people who haven’t played Final Fantasy VII.

I appreciate your interest in the project. Tell your friends!
